BIOGRAPHICAL HIGHLIGHTS

1994-2002 As a young teenager, Christopher Schmitt exhausted the family library by reading all the books at his disposal. He became interested in history, archaeology and particularly esotericism. Later on, he put this approach into practice through lessons from the book The Secret of the Aura by Tuesday Lobsang Rampa. This learning allowed him to access another perception of the world which reinforced a feeling that he had since childhood: that of not having only one life. This is what he embodies today in his painting.

2009 It is thanks to the associative gallery Le Pont des Z'Arts located in Seyssel in Haute-Savoie that he meets the painter Pierre Montillo. Christopher Schmitt presents him his sketchbooks of paintings, the artist strongly encourages him to exhibit this first series. In addition, he gave him a decisive insight into the management of a visual artist's career by advising him on aspects such as communication and sales strategies. Christopher Schmitt adopts a professional approach, a posture that quickly bears fruit as he obtains an interview with the television channel 8 Mont-Blanc.

2011 While he begins a plastic research on how to simulate movement in painting to give birth to the Series 2 he has in mind, he struggles to find a pictorial outcome. The solution is offered to him following a "painting" accident. He now knows how to proceed to generate the movement of an aqueous form on the surface and to represent the vegetal veins, thus making the link with his photographic practice. Series 2 is underway.

2014 Eager to enter the art market and to obtain an officially referenced quotation, Christopher Schmitt contacts the auction house Cannes Enchères to participate in their sale entitled "Modern and Contemporary Art" gathering many paintings and some sculptures. Two of his paintings are presented and sold, making his production of quoted works granting him a notoriety.

2015 The Cité du Temps of the Swatch Group is a museum (now located in Biel, Switzerland), dedicated to the presentation of all their collections (past and present). This place is also equipped with exhibition spaces dedicated to contemporary artists and accessible only by selection. It is within this framework that the work of the painter was selected. One of the paintings exhibited at the time is now part of the museum's collection of contemporary art, a further recognition of the artist's career.

1994-2002  Jeune adolescent, Christopher Schmitt épuise la bibliothèque familiale en lisant tous les livres à sa disposition. Il s’intéresse ainsi à l’histoire, l’archéologie et particulièrement à l’ésotérisme. Plus tard, il met en pratique cette approche par le biais notamment de leçons issues de l’ouvrage Les secret de l’aura de Tuesday Lobsang Rampa. Cet apprentissage lui permet d’accéder à une autre perception du monde qui renforce un sentiment qu’il a depuis petit : celui de ne pas avoir qu’une seule vie. C’est aujourd’hui ce qu’il incarne dans sa peinture.

2009  C’est grâce à la galerie associative Le Pont des Z’Arts située à Seyssel en Haute-Savoie qu’il rencontre le peintre Pierre Montillo. Christopher Schmitt lui présente ses carnets d’ébauches de peintures, l’artiste l’encourage vivement à exposer cette première série. Par ailleurs, il lui apporte un éclairage déterminant sur la gestion d’une carrière de plasticien en le conseillant sur des aspects comme la communication ou les stratégies de vente. Christopher Schmitt adopte dès lors une approche professionnelle, une posture qui porte rapidement ses fruits puisqu’il obtient peu de temps après une interview de la chaîne de télévision 8 Mont-Blanc.

2011  Alors qu’il engage une recherche plastique sur la manière de simuler le mouvement en peinture pour donner naissance à la Série 2 qu’il a en tête, il peine à trouver une issue picturale. La solution s’offre à lui suite à un accident «de peinture». Il sait à présent comment procéder pour générer le mouvement d’une forme aqueuse sur la surface et représenter les nervures végétales, faisant ainsi le lien avec sa pratique photographique. La Série 2 est en marche.

2014  Désireux de s’inscrire sur le marché de l’art et d’obtenir une cote officiellement référencée, Christopher Schmitt contacte la maison de vente Cannes Enchères pour participer à leur vente intitulée «Art moderne et art contemporain» rassemblant de nombreuses peintures et quelques sculptures. Deux de ses toiles sont ainsi présentées et vendues, faisant de sa production des œuvres cotées lui octroyant une notoriété.

2015  La Cité du Temps du groupe Swatch est un musée, (à présent implanté à Bienne en Suisse), dédié à la présentation de l’ensemble de leurs collections (passées et présentes). Ce lieu est également doté d’espaces d’exposition destinés à des artistes contemporains et accessibles uniquement sur sélection. C’est dans ce cadre que le travail du peintre a été retenu. L’une des toiles alors exposée figure maintenant dans le fonds de la collection d’œuvres d’art contemporain du musée ; une reconnaissance de plus pour la carrière du plasticien.
